A seminar on Sustainability was conducted at St. Mary’s ICSE by Mr. Baba Prasad Lanka on Saturday 20th June from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The program was designed to raise awareness about sustainable practices and to inspire students and staff to adopt eco-friendly approaches in their daily lives.
The seminar began with an introduction to the vision of a sustainable school, emphasizing the importance of integrating eco-friendly practices into academics, infrastructure, and daily routines. Mr. Baba Prasad Lanka highlighted the role of schools as models of sustainability and encouraged participants to think of long-term strategies that balance environmental, social, and economic needs.
One of the key topics discussed was tree plantation, where the importance of afforestation and maintaining green cover was explained as a vital step toward ecological balance. The session also focused on eco-stewardship, urging students to take responsibility for protecting natural resources and to act as ambassadors of sustainability within their communities.
The seminar further explored the implementation strategy, outlining practical steps for embedding sustainability into school activities. This included waste segregation, renewable energy adoption, and eco-friendly infrastructure planning. To make the session interactive and engaging, a quiz was conducted using Menti.com, which allowed students to test their knowledge and actively participate in the learning process.
Throughout the seminar, emphasis was placed on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), linking global objectives with local actions. Students also presented innovative ideas and projects, which demonstrated creativity and feasibility in real-world applications. The discussions were lively, with active participation from both students and teachers, and the speaker’s inspirational message reinforced the importance of individual responsibility in achieving sustainability.
The seminar concluded with a strong call to action, motivating participants to adopt sustainable practices in their personal and professional lives. It successfully achieved its objectives by fostering dialogue, inspiring innovation, and encouraging the integration of sustainability into academic and extracurricular activities.
